As a general rule, there should be at least 250 words on each page. 1000 is the optimal amount of words that you should have on any page. The keyword that you have selected should consist of 1.5 to 2.5 percent of the total content. If you have written a 1000-word article, your keywords should be repeated 15-25 times throughout the article. Also be sure to add the keywords to the title and the meta tags of your web page. Update your website with at least one new page of fresh and unique content every day and you are well on your way to getting a decent page rank. It is of utmost importance that you update your site regularly.

SEO Basics Step 3: Get Your Site Linked. Besides content, another crucial step in getting high search engine rankings is to increase the amount of back-links to your site. Back-links are links on other sites which are directed towards your website. A slow, but true and tested method is to focus on creating good content. When you have tones of cool and interesting content in your website, readers will generally be inclined to book mark and add your link to their website or blog. You can also create great back-links by creating a profile on Squidoo, Facebook, My Space, Twitter and other social book-marking sites. You can add your website links to those profiles and with a little bit of networking and maintenance, you can also gain a decent amount of traffic from those sites. Article marking and directories are also great ways to create back-links.
